Students use Alphacam to Build Award-Winning Pieces

Students from high school and post secondary woodworking programs relied on Alphacam software to create projects for the AWFS® Fresh Wood Student Competition, held last July Las Vegas in conjunction with the AWFS® Fair. Lance Palmer of Harper Creek High School in Michigan found Alphacam helpful in cutting shapes for bending plywood. His project “Bookstack,” a sculpted cabinet of various woods and burls, won second place in the high school case goods category of the competition. Two Georgia Tech students employed Alphacam for their winning projects—an armoire and a table with stools. Catherine Schindel noted, “the mastery of Alphacam really allowed me to build things I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.” Jessica Wood used Alphacam software and CNC equipment for the first time and won second place in her category. These projects and many more can be seen in the new hardbound publication, fresh wood volume 3, the showcase piece of the student work.

Cabinet shops as well as school programs can appreciate the innovative work of the students as well as be enlightened by the students’ dialogues on how they overcame a multitude of construction and finishing challenges. fresh wood volume can be ordered online at www.awfs.org/storeindex.cfm.
